Request: VLC Video Window on Pocket PC

Postby sunnyd24 » Mon May 18, 2009 11:55 am

Hi,

A quick question in regards to viewing a VLC media player window on the Client side PPC. It shows up as a blank screen when paused or playing.

Any ideas why? I presume its down to the way the server side captures and encodes the data. And any fast moving items are ignored?

Anyway, a feature request to include an option for this on the server side to enable fast bitrate remote viewing of the video? and maybe enable the option for remote sound aswell? I know this wasn't the scope for the project but would be a valuable addition to the suite.

Bitrate/Bandwidth is not a problem for this as I hoping to use this over WIFI through the local area network only.

Thanks.

I think the blank screen in VLC depends on what Output mode you use in VLC.
I am able to see the output in VLC by choosing Video > Choose DirectX 3D video output.

Some of the older remote touch versions have issues with showing VLC output.
Make sure you use the latest Remote Touch versions.

Yes I like the idea of a burst mode which tries to give the quickest video possible.
And yes the idea of having audio support in Remote Touch is something I want to do as well ... just need to find the time for that :)

Hi!

You're right about the output mode in VLC requiring to be "DirectX 3D video output". It now works, but sluggish, which is what I would have expected though. The frame burst mode could be a great addition to your software, maybe linked to a single window only (Similar concept to Ultra VNC's "single window mode"), not full desktop (as this would result in a much higher bitrate required).

Now as you mentioned audio would be the other great addition, now I understand the time aspect of it and I'm sure many people wouldn't mind paying for the burst video and audio feature. It will allow users to watch video anytime anywhere in the house, as well as on the PC, simultaneously. I don't think there's any software available to do this, unless I'm mistaken!

Also, those scrolling ads are displaying ads that are related from my Firefox browser. Is your software spying on PC applications and showing matching ads on the Pocket PC?

Yup, the idea currently is to allow full control of your PC without killing bandwidth.
Yeah I was thinking of making these features Commercial-only as it would be ALOT of additional work ... but it's interesting too ! There may be apps that do this already. Not sure ... In fact, Josh Volp knows how to do this with an ORB Streaming Server.

Regarding the ads ... 2.0 was using google to find relevant ads. I've completely removed that in 2.02. I strongly suggest you upgrade to 2.02 (It has other nasty bug issues like killing running Firefox by mistake). That shows a lot of less ads and only as part of Remote Touch Advertising. I've added an ad in Remote Touch, to tell everyone to upgrade to 2.02.
